The ATO have made several changes to how they deliver their notices in the past 2 years.

There have been many upgrades, and these changes have caused some difficulties, particularly with PAYG Instalment Notices.

The ATO deliver PAYG Instalment Notices in 4 ways:

  • By Mail – posted to your address
  • ECI – electronic delivery via email
  • MyGov – as a direct message in your MyGov account
  • ATO Online – through the ATO Business Portal.

This communication relies heavily on the premise that all your data provided to the ATO is correct.

We have been working diligently to ensure that all data in the ATO portal is up to date on the records we have, and this is an ongoing work in progress.

The ATO, however, is constantly updating their systems, and sometimes our client addresses fail to register, which results in notices not being sent to you by the ATO. This, unfortunately, is out of our control, and has happened on numerous occasions.

One of the main issues we have come across is when client PAYG Instalments change (as a result of lodging your annual Income Tax Return), the first notice is not being issued to the client. This issue has already been alerted to the ATO.

We have been able to track this by downloading a report from the ATO when the PAYG Instalments are issued, and then again 2 weeks out from when they are due for lodgement and payment. This has proved to be a great help in ensuring that no PAYG Instalments are missed.

As a result of our frustration with ATO Communications, we have now subscribed to a new software program called ATOMate. This software system downloads all ATO notices into one place and makes it easier to track your notices, to ensure they get to you in a timely manner.

Although the goalposts keep changing, we are striving to keep abreast of the changes.

It’s important for our clients to keep us up to date with any changes in their details to minimise any risks of ATO notices not being received.
