As we approach the end of the year, a lot of us are managing deadlines, personal commitments, and the general rush that comes with this season. Unfortunately, this is also when scammers ramp up their activity – particularly scams targeting taxpayers.
One of the most recent scams involves an ATO impersonation email advising recipients that they have an outstanding tax-related ‘DocuSign’ document requiring urgent action. These emails closely mimic genuine DocuSign notifications, making them appear credible, especially to those who have used the platform before.
We urge you to please stay vigilant. Be cautious of any unexpected emails, phone calls, or text messages claiming to be from the Australian Taxation Office.
If you receive any communication that seems unusual or suspicious, do not engage – do not click links, open attachments, or respond.
The safest course of action is to contact the ATO directly on 1800 008 540 to confirm whether the interaction is legitimate.
